Artist

Roman Surzhenko was born in 1972 in Taganrog, Russia. In 1994, he earned his university degree and, for the next several years, worked as an illustrator for a variety of Russian publishers. It was in 2001 that he turned toward the comics world, joining a collective called Aventures Magnifiques. By 2003, he had begun working for Moscow publisher Advance-Press, while working in parallel on cartoon animation projects and magazine design. Finally, in 2010, noticed by publisher Humanoïdes Associés, Surzhenko made his entrance into the French market, contributing to the series La Meute de l’enfer, written by Philippe Thirault. He then worked briefly with publisher Soleil before joining Le Lombard in 2011, illustrating Louve, a spin-off series based on the legendary Thorgal. Alongside author Yann, Surzhenko would go on to illustrate two other Worlds of Thorgal series, La Jeunesse de Thorgal (Le Lombard, Thorgal: The Young Years, Europe Comics 2017) and Kriss de Valnor.
