The Countdown to Launch PART 1

news

November 8, 2015

We were very impatient to launch Europe Comics, we were counting the days so we thought we’d involve everyone else in the count. That’s why the “33 Days To Europe Comics” campaign was launched. On October 8th, our FacebookTwitter and Instagram accounts were activated. We were counting live from the New York Comic Con – one of the two biggest comics events in America, recording 167 000 attendees this year. So we though it was a good place to start.

Thus the very first Europe Comics booth came into being, at ‘the Con’, in the heart of Manhattan. This is where we got to meet many interesting people – the new American friends of Europe Comics.

We had a lot of fun at the Comic Con, but we did some work as well. Europe Comics was a co-sponsor of the ICv2 White Paper Happy Hour, where comics veteran Milton Griepp presented the state of the comics industry in the US. Overall the results are positive, with a rise in graphic novels and children’s titles and an increasing female audience. All of this is excellent news for Europe Comic, of course, as graphic novels are our specialty, we’ll have many children’s comics coming and we are preparing a special line of titles dedicated to women.

The other interesting event we were part of was the Publishers Weekly panel – Euro-Comics Spotlight on the French invasion, where European authors presented their work published in the USA. There we had Jean-David Morvan, originally published by the Europe Comics partner Dupuis, presenting his latest work, Omaha Beach, created with artist Dominique Bertail and published in the US by FirstSecond (Macmillan).

Overall the New Your Comic Con treated us very well, and we can’t wait to be back next year and meet our new American friends again.
