Every year from late April to early May the Geneva Book and Press Fair, the second largest French-language book fair in the world and the largest in Switzerland, attracts 100,000 fans of the printed word and an impressive 1,000 authors! Over five days, the event brings together readers, writers, publishers, booksellers and media in a convivial atmosphere where the focus is on pleasure, interaction and the thrill of discovery.
This is the first time the National Museum in Krakow has organised an exhibition showing original works, publications and objects from 1871–2017 connected with comics in Poland. All the objects are part of the private collection amassed by Wojciech Jama – one of the exhibition curators. On display are over 600 items including: sketches, pages, blueprints, albums with drawings and autographs, as well as books,
catalogues, magazines, occasional prints, unique figurines, toys, coins, stamps and everyday articles.
International Comics Festival Boomfest was born in 2007 in Saint-Petersburg. Since then it has grown up into a bright international event in the world of comics art. Annually in September the festival covers the main city stages. Comics and illustration exhibitions, performances, film screening, competetitions and master-classes for young authors, meetings with artists and professionals and of course the book-fair — all of these could be found within every Boomfest.
For almost 17 years now KomMissia Comics Festival has been the main event in Russia for those who appreciate comics: young and old, readers and fans, amateur and professional artists, bookshops and publishers. Through these years comics and graphic storytelling movement in Russia has grown from an underground art form into a strong prolific industry in the field of popular entertainment. The mission is to promote and develop the genre through contests, educational events and conferences for both young and working artists and through exhibitions, lectures and presentations for readers and publishers.
